ABOUT US

Hi! We’re Cowtribe

Africa's first on-demand veterinary vaccine distribution platform and we are at the forefront of transforming animal healthcare for smallholder farmers. Our mission is to improve the lives of these farmers by providing accessible and affordable animal health services.

Our journey began with the goal to fill the significant void in the availability of essential animal healthcare services, especially vaccinations. We believe that every farmer, regardless of their location and size, deserves the opportunity to protect their livestock against deadly diseases. This conviction drives us to build innovative solutions to the supply chain challenges that impede vaccine access in hard-to-reach places in Africa, ensuring that farmers across the continent can enjoy healthier animals, improved livelihoods, and enhanced food security.

Since our inception in 2017, we've delivered millions of vaccine units to over 20,000 smallholder farmers in Ghana alone. Together with our farmers, we are safeguarding vulnerable livestock, forging a sustainable path out of poverty, and fortifying a resilient agricultural sector across Africa.

WHY IT MATTERS

Livestock are Vital Assets for the Survival and Prosperity of Millions Across Africa

Currently, over 300 million people in Africa, approximately 20% of the population, are undernourished, and 800 million experience moderate or severe food insecurity. Malnutrition is particularly severe among vulnerable groups, with 30.7% of children suffering from stunting due to undernourishment. With 85% of households in sub-Saharan Africa relying on livestock for food and income, protecting these essential assets is crucial. However, only 5% of farmers have access to vaccines.

The Power of Accessible Vaccines

Making vaccines accessible can prevent 70% of animal mortality, enhance food security, and enable farmers to break the cycle of poverty and malnutrition.

Over 300 million people in Africa are undernourished. Vaccinating livestock increases milk and meat production, reducing stunting in children by 10-15%.

About 70% of poor African households depend on livestock. Vaccinating livestock has proven to increase income by 20-25%, enhancing economic resilience and reducing poverty.

Over 60% of emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic. Vaccinating livestock reduces disease transmission by 40-50%, significantly improving public health.

Livestock contribute 14.5% of greenhouse gas emissions. Vaccinating livestock reduces methane emissions by 10-15%, supporting efforts to mitigate climate change.

Join Our Team

Cowtribe began as a humble initiative of our two founders, Alima and Peter, who were united by a mission to transform livestock health management across Africa. Coming from livestock-keeping families themselves, they experienced firsthand the problems they are seeking to solve. Over seven years, they worked hand in hand to grow the company, which now serves thousands of farmers annually. More than anything, our founders believe in the power of collaboration and the impact of dedicated professionals. We firmly believe that collaboration with like-minded people is essential to our success. By joining forces with others who share our commitment, we amplify our impact, empowering communities and enhancing the well-being of both animals and farmers. Join us on this transformative journey and help us shape the future of animal health in Africa.
